Well, not exactly having my Kiss records out, but when I was a small boy growing up in Oglesby, Illinois I definitely had my mom’s Beatles’ records out.
The Beatles, Gene Pitney, The Supremes, Led Zeppelin (that’s right, my Mom was into Zeppelin), The Beach Boys, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Simon and Garfunkle, and Johnny Cash. That’s what I remember listening to on my Mom’s small hi-fi system when she was at work or when my Mom was in the mood for some rock and roll on the weekends when she was cleaning the house.
Although my Mom had all these records I never really knew how much of a rock and roller she was until I was older and she told me that she had gone to the Les Buzz Ballroom (Dick Verucchi’s father owned it) and had seen bands like Bill Haley and the Comets and Gene Vincent.
Cool, Mom.
